My name is Amin Karim, and I am running for McHenry County Treasurer. I’m NOT a professional politician, and I don’t know how to make windy speeches. I’m a straight shooter – an honest and hardworking ordinary citizen who plays by the book.
No politics. No big talk. Just Honest public service!
I am a first-generation immigrant who came to this country as an undergraduate student in 1980. I’m thoroughly familiar with and have first-hand experience of the struggles of both the students and the parents in meeting their financial obligations and the hardship they endure. Now in my 60s, and some 40 years later, I am still dealing with the same challenges, but now for my children. Out of four of my children, the youngest three are pursuing university degrees, and my oldest is a qualified attorney. I also have three grandchildren, and I have been living in Crystal Lake for the past 20 years.
Why am I running for the office?
I am running for office because I am tired of hearing and watching bad news on TV and media platforms every day! I am tired of hearing how our nation is divided more than ever: neighbors don’t talk to neighbors because of distrust, people confined at home because of fear, parents feeling unsafe sending children to school, or leaving them in the library, and most people living in isolation – and that is why I am running. I’m running for the office because I want to share my voice and I want to be heard. I want to contribute and not complain, and I want to encourage others to do so as well. It is important that we all participate in our election process and work together and be united as a nation.
As a first-generation immigrant and a minority candidate, I want my voice to be heard and echoed for the people who cannot speak and suffer in silence. As Malala Yousafzai says, “I raise up my voice – not so that I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard.” We are, but just a melting pot; we represent people of all colors, races, faiths, and genders. We represent ourselves as one nation – we are indivisible! Our country is more divided than ever, and we need to put our differences aside and rebuild our community and our nation. I believe in solidarity, and solidarity is our power!
I believe we need to take care of our family, our community, our state, and our country first before taking the role of Big Brother. We need to be united and be active, and we need to voice our opinions at all levels in order to progress. We cannot stay divided and self-inflict ourselves. Only through solidarity can we rebuild our strength and lead the world as a nation and set examples for our children. We need to act locally but think globally.
This race is all about us! Our tax money, economic growth, labor rights, women's rights, community safety, education, the future of the children, and green and renewable energy. We can do it only through being aligned.
My running for the office is NOT just about myself. It is about you, me, our families, our community, our nation, and our future generations. We need to be united and work together more than ever. We need to step up and share our voice, demand our rights, and we need to do it now!
The County Treasurer's Office has not witnessed much change in the past two decades, and I am about to make that change! I’m result-oriented, and I believe in the process. I blame the system and not the people. Unity is our power, and with your support, I can do it!
On November 8th, vote for your conscience and vote for your values!
Thank you for your kind and warm support! God bless you all! – Amin.
